In this immersive Zoom workshop, we’ll explore the pich—the traditional Slavic masonry stove—as the warm, protective heart of the home. Discover how the hearth served not only for cooking and heating, but also as a sacred threshold where family life, household spirits, ancestors, healing, and folk magic came together. In a traditional Ukrainian home, the pich was far more than an appliance. It was a place of nourishment, sleep, purification, protection, and ceremony. Folklore placed spirits near it, healers used its warmth and ashes, and families treated the fire with respect. We’ll uncover the magical customs surrounding this powerful domestic center and translate its wisdom into meaningful modern practice.
