Join me on July 11, 2027, at 5PM PT/6PM MT/7PM CT/8PM ET for the July Slavic Sunday Workshop: Obereh: Protective Talismans. In this immersive Zoom workshop, we’ll explore the obereh, protective charms or talismans found throughout Ukrainian and Slavic folk tradition. Learn how everyday materials, sacred symbols, spoken blessings, and careful placement can create layers of protection for a person, home, journey, or family. Can’t make it live? Protection in Slavic folk magic is rarely limited to a single object. It may be stitched into clothing, carved above a doorway, tied in red thread, carried as an herb bundle, or embedded in the design of the home itself. We’ll study the principles that make an obereh meaningful and consider how protective customs can be adapted with care.

What You’ll Learn:

• What Is an Obereh?: Understand the purpose and many forms of protective talismans in Slavic cultures.
• Protective Symbols: Explore crosses, diamonds, circles, trees, birds, and other motifs used to repel harm.
• Materials of Protection: Learn how thread, cloth, wood, metal, herbs, salt, grain, and other materials carry protective meaning.
• Words and Blessings: Discover how prayers, charms, intention, and ritual action awaken a talisman’s purpose.
• Placement and Boundaries: Learn how to use talismans thoughtfully on the body, near entrances, in vehicles, and throughout the home.
• Creating Your Own Obereh: Discover how to create a personal protective charm rooted in clear intention and respectful symbolism.

You’ll leave with a practical framework for recognizing, creating, and tending protective talismans that guard what matters most.
