Join me on August 1, 2027, at 5PM PT/6PM MT/7PM CT/8PM ET for the August Slavic Sunday Workshop: The Domovyk: Ancestral House Spirit. In this immersive Zoom workshop, we’ll meet the Domovyk, the ancestral house spirit who guards the family, animals, hearth, and well-being of the home. Learn how this intimate household presence communicates approval or displeasure and how families traditionally maintained a respectful relationship with him. Can’t make it live? A recording will be sent to all who register.

The Domovyk belongs to the innermost world of the household. He may help with chores, protect livestock, warn of danger, hide objects, or create disturbances when neglected. Often understood as connected to the family’s ancestors, he embodies the memory, order, and character of the home itself.

What You’ll Learn:

• Who Is the Domovyk?: Explore his origins, appearances, names, and connections to family ancestors and household continuity.
• Guardian of Home and Animals: Understand his protective role around the hearth, sleeping places, children, pets, and family fortune.
• Signs and Warnings: Learn how sounds, dreams, misplaced objects, animal behavior, and household disturbances were interpreted.
• Offerings and Etiquette: Discover traditional foods, respectful words, taboos, and gestures used to maintain harmony.
• Moving to a New Home: Explore customs for inviting the Domovyk to accompany the family rather than leaving him behind.
• Modern Household Spirit Practice: Create thoughtful ways to honor the spirit and ancestry of your own living space.

This workshop closes the year by bringing magic home, offering a deeper understanding of the unseen guardian who represents family memory, protection, and belonging.
